Grown on steep, rocky hillside vineyards featuring volcanic and alluvial soils, it's aged 22 months in French oak and bottled in 2012. Known for its elegant structure and long cellarability, Montelena typically releases library vintages via a decade-later program

Tasting Notes

COLOR:
Bright garnet to medium ruby red.

NOSE:
Aromas of black cherry, crushed blackberry, plum, plus savory notes of cedar, earth, pencil lead, forest floor, dried herbs, licorice, espresso, clove, and dark cocoa.

TASTE:
Medium-bodied with satin tannins; black and red fruits (blackberry, raspberry), plus wet stone minerality, herbal character, anise, vanilla, with flavors of dark chocolate, espresso, leather, and smoky oak.

FINISH:
Long and clean, with lingering notes of dark chocolate, leather, cedar, tobacco, and savory earth.
