Description

XIX” is Villalta’s Amarone made in the Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG, in Veneto, Italy. It is produced by Casa Girelli, using traditional Valpolicella varietals — primarily Corvina and Rondinella (and often a smaller component of Molinara) — from vineyards with good exposure, often on steep or hillside sites in the Valpolicella region (e.g. Fumane). The wine undergoes the classic appassimento (drying) process to concentrate sugars, flavours, and complexity. After harvest and drying, the wine is aged for significant time (notably, about 2 years in Slavonian oak casks (50-60 hl)) before release.

Tasting Notes

COLOR:
Deep garnet red, almost opaque.

NOSE:
Rich aromas of dried cherry, fig, raisin, and plum, intertwined with cocoa, tobacco, and sweet spice notes of vanilla and cinnamon.

TASTE:
Full-bodied and opulent, with layers of dried fruit, blackberry, chocolate, espresso, and spice. Smooth, velvety tannins provide structure, balanced by warming alcohol and subtle acidity.

FINISH:
Long, lingering finish with notes of dried fruit, spice, and a hint of dark chocolate.
