Description

“Vicente” is a red wine from the Douro DOC made by Vicente Faria Vinhos. It is only produced in the most exceptional years. The wine is a blend of Touriga Nacional (≈ 70%) and Tinta Roriz (≈ 30%). Grapes are hand-harvested and selected; fermentation includes pre-fermentative maceration, controlled temperature; then it is aged for 18 months in oak barrels. Alcohol content is about 14% ABV, total acidity around 5.4 g/L (tartaric acid). The wine is intended to be enjoyed now but it can age for many years, up to ~30 years under good conditions.

Tasting Notes

COLOR:
Deep, marked colour, indicative of concentration.

NOSE:
Complex fruit of ripe red fruits (cherry, plum, perhaps dark red berry), along with spice notes and well-integrated wood / oak expression.

TASTE:
Full flavour intensity, ripe red fruit, firm tannins, balanced acidity. There is evident oak influence, contributing to structure and depth.

FINISH:
Long finish with persistent fruit, good structure, and potential evolution over time.
