Description
Il Rosso dei Vespa is a Primitivo di Manduria DOC wine made by Vespa Vignaioli per Passione in Puglia, southern Italy. It is 100% Primitivo, sourced from vines around 90 m above sea level, planted in clay (argilloso) soils. The vines are of moderate age (~15-20 years) and trained using cordone speronato. Vinification includes ~10 days maceration on skins (with numerous punch downs), a small portion of “salasso” (~10%), malolactic fermentation in stainless steel, followed by about 6 months ageing in French oak barriques (specifically from forests like Never and Tronçais).
Tasting Notes
COLOR:
Intense ruby-red with violet reflections.
NOSE:
Pronounced aromas of ripe red and dark fruits — plum, morello cherry, strawberry. Also fresh violet floral notes, with oak-derived hints of vanilla, cacao, and spice.
TASTE:
Full, robust, dense and material. Rich fruit plays up — dark berries, plum — with well-defined tannins.
FINISH:
Balanced by spice and vanilla from oak, and a long, spicy, aromatic finish.
