Description
Il Bruno dei Vespa is a Primitivo from the Salento IGT (Puglia, southern Italy), produced by Vespa Vignaioli per Passione, a winery founded by Bruno Vespa in Manduria. The vineyards are roughly 90 m above sea level, with vines aged between ~15-20 years growing in clay-rich soils. The wine is made 100% from Primitivo, with alcoholic fermentation (maceration on skins ~10 days, regular punch-downs), followed by malolactic fermentation and ageing (~4 months) in barriques (Never and Troncais barrels) to add structure and complexity.
Tasting Notes
COLOR:
Intense ruby red with some violet or purple reflections when young.
NOSE:
Rich aromatics of ripe red fruits — cherry, morello cherry, plum, blackberries. Notes of dried flowers, vanilla, and spice (white pepper) are evident. Some secondary nuances (leather, underbrush) show up in more aged or open vintages.
TASTE:
On the palate it is smooth, ripe, warm and enveloping. It shows velvety tannins; fruit-rich (berry, cherry), balanced by spice, vanilla oak, and a pleasant acidity that keeps it from becoming flabby.
FINISH:
The finish is harmonious, persistent, with a combination of fruit, spice and a soft structure. The oak is present but well balanced, giving vanilla and peppery lift.
