Crafted from less than 100 casks, Rare Cask Black is a testament to The Macallan's commitment to innovation and quality. The whisky is matured exclusively in first-fill sherry-seasoned oak casks, predominantly European oak, which imparts rich, full-bodied flavors. What sets this expression apart is the use of peated malt, a rarity for The Macallan, resulting in a subtle smoky character that complements the distillery's signature sherried style.

In 2018, The Macallan released a special Limited Edition of Rare Cask Black to commemorate the opening of their new distillery. This edition included a bespoke pewter flask engraved with The Macallan's logo and featured photography by Paolo Pellegrin, highlighting the distillery's unique architecture. Only 7,000 bottles of this edition were released worldwide.
