John J. Bowman Single Barrel is a premium bourbon from A. Smith Bowman Distillery, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. It is made by selecting some of the oldest barrels in their warehouse, then bottled at 100 proof (50% ABV). There is no official age statement (NAS), though many reviewers believe it to be around 9-10 years in certain barrels.
The bourbon is non-chill filtered and is crafted to showcase both sweetness and depth: rich notes of oak, dried fruit, spices, and leather appear, combined with Virginia’s distinctive climate influences in barrel aging.

Tasting Notes
COLOR:
Medium to dark amber/copper colour; warm golden highlights. Slight oily legs on the glass.
NOSE:
Rich and inviting: toffee, caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, toasted oak, pears or apple notes, leather, figs, almonds. Some reviewers note lighter fruity touches — apple, green apple or more stone fruit — plus baking spices.
TASTE:
Sweet but balanced; buttery caramel and vanilla, brown sugar, oak, maybe a subtle dryness from toasted oak char. Spices like cinnamon, nutmeg; sometimes pepper, clove. Fruits (apple / pear / dried fruit) show up. Leather and tobacco may be present in some barrels.
FINISH:
Medium to long; often drying on oak, with lingering caramel, some spice, leather, figs or almonds; balanced in sweetness and wood influence. Dry oak, hints of pepper or warming spices as aftertaste. Some barrels exhibit more dryness/tannin than others.
