Description
The Hampden Estate Great House 2022 is a Jamaican pot‐still rum released as part of the annual Great House series. It is bottled at 55% ABV with no age statement on the label, but internally it’s a blend of marques (and vintages) selected to showcase Hampden’s characteristic funk, aromatic complexity and fruit-forward profile.
In this edition, roughly 74% of the blend is HGML (a high-ester marque), distilled in 2019, aged approximately 3 years; and about 26% is LFCH, distilled in 2011, aged ~11 years. The high-ester component gives punch, while the older LFCH brings balance and depth.
The rum is fully matured in Jamaica (tropical aging) before bottling.

Tasting Notes
COLOR:
Golden to medium-gold in colour, with good clarity and a medium viscosity.
NOSE:
Intense and funky; ripe tropical fruits (pineapple, banana, mango), overripe fruit, fermenty / “funk” elements (banana, overripe tropical fruit, pineapple funk), hints of varnish / solvent, red currants, orange blossom, florals, and some brine or salty edge. Also hints of caramel and sweet things underneath.
TASTE:
Bold and fruit-driven; strong tropical fruits (papaya, pineapple, banana), sweetness (maple, brown sugar), high ester funk, spice (ginger, clove), vegetal / briny notes; oak tannins are present but not overwhelming. Some reviewers note ethanol prick or heat but generally well integrated for its strength.
FINISH:
Long, warming, slightly dry, with lingering funk and bitterness; notes of ginger, pepper, citrus zest, oak, and maybe coffee or pastry dough tones.
