Description
Footprint Merlot is a 100% Merlot red wine from the Western Cape of South Africa, produced by African Pride Wines. The grapes are sourced from regions such as Breedekloof and Paarl. The wine is made using cold-soaking, fermentation in stainless-steel tanks (with small portions matured on French oak staves or aged via oak influence for added texture), followed by malolactic fermentation and stabilization.
Tasting Notes
NOSE:
Lush fruit tones such as black cherries, mulberries, plums, and stewed plum compote. A subtle note of dark chocolate and maybe a touch of forest floor or gentle baking spices.
TASTE:
Medium-bodied, dry, with velvety, smooth tannins. The fruit carries through: plum, mulberry, red berries, sometimes stewed or more ripe fruit. Some versions show dark chocolate or wild fruit undertones. Balanced with pleasant acidity.
FINISH:
Medium-length, with lingering fruit (plum/cherry), smooth tannin structure, and enough acidity to give freshness to the finish.
