Darkness - Balmenach 9 Year Old Oloroso Cask Finish | Single Malt Scotch Whisky

This is a limited-edition single malt from the Speyside distillery Balmenach, released under the Darkness label (bottled by Atom Brands) and matured for 9 years, culminating in a finish in hand-coopered Oloroso sherry “octave” casks (small size barrels) before being bottled at 56.6% ABV.

The concept behind the small octave sherry barrels is that the increased surface-area-to-volume ratio accelerates interaction with the wood and sherry residuals, thereby delivering more intense sherry character in a shorter time.

Balmenach is better known for its spirit contributions to blends rather than widespread official single-malt releases, making bottlings like this relatively special for single-malt enthusiasts.
