Dandelion Vineyards – Lioness of McLaren Vale Shiraz is a single-vineyard Shiraz sourced from the subregion of Bakers Gully in McLaren Vale, South Australia. The fruit is harvested from old Shiraz vines planted in ironstone pebble-laden clay loam soils over ancient Kurrajong Formation geology, a silica-cemented conglomerate most suited to grow Shiraz.

Winemaker Elena Brooks employs traditional winemaking techniques, including open fermentation and basket pressing, followed by maturation in older French oak barrels. This approach aims to showcase the unique terroir and produce a wine that reflects the essence of McLaren Vale.

Tasting Notes

COLOR:
Deep and bright purple with ozone blue and pink rim-edge highlightss.

NOSE:
Aromatics and bouquet are beautifully combined, featuring white chocolate, fresh lavender buds, cooking spices such as black pepper, nutmeg, and cinnamon, along with fresh rosemary, laurel leaves, browned meat juices, rose petals, nougat, and violets. The wine is underpinned by a nuance of fine oak.

TASTE:
Bright red berries at dawn spark a burst of fruit before being quickly balanced by a long, clear line of natural acidity. Fine tannins provide structure from the first sip to the palate's end, with aniseed and blueberry playing off mulberry and plums. The wine is balanced to within a Troy ounce of impossible perfection.
