Description

Legendary Napa viticulturist, David Abreu, and talented winemaker, Brad Grimes, have together been consistently crafting some of California’s most profound Cabernet-based fine wines. The Thorevilos vineyard is somewhat of a curiosity as it sits at 800ft elevation, sandwiched between the St Helena and Howell Mountain AVAs, yet does not belong to either. No matter. This is a sublime release and possibly the best of the 2015s. It possesses similarly deep, rich and exuberant black and blue fruit, forest floor and graphite notes to its stablemates, but has an extra captivating floral dimension. An incredible wine with many decades of potential longevity.

Tasting Notes

COLOR:
Deep, inky purple with a garnet rim.

NOSE:
An intoxicating bouquet of blackcurrant, wild blackberry, cassis liqueur, and black cherry, wrapped in violets, graphite, crushed stone, and hints of cedar box. Subtle undertones of cocoa nibs and fresh tobacco add complexity.

TASTE:
Full-bodied yet perfectly balanced, delivering waves of black and blue fruits with lifted acidity. Silky tannins frame flavors of ripe plum, licorice, espresso, and savory herbs. The mid-palate is plush and expansive, leading to a long, mineral-driven finish with echoes of dark chocolate and crushed granite.

FINISH:
Persistent and resonant, lingering for well over a minute.

Food Pairing

Red Meat: Prime rib, bone-in ribeye, slow-braised short ribs.

Game: Venison loin with blackberry reduction, roast duck with cherry glaze.

Mature Cheeses: Aged Comté, Pecorino Toscano, or clothbound cheddar.

Vegetarian: Truffle risotto, wild mushroom ragù over polenta.

Tip: Best served after a 2–3 hour decant at 60–64°F.
